The Commandant-General (CG), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC), Abdullahi Muhammadu, has directed immediate deployment of 30,000 personnel to man strategic locations nationwide during the Yuletide.
Spokesman of the corps, Mr Emmanuel Okeh in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja, said the move was part of efforts to enhance security of lives and property during the season.
The CG also directed all state commands of the corps to ensure adequate deployment to potential targets of attacks such as churches, markets, shopping and recreation centres.
According to the spokesman, the special security operation, which will cover critical infrastructure and national assets, will extend to the new year.
He quoted Muhammadu as saying that the measure was critical, bearing in mind that criminals always took advantage of festive periods to perpetrate their nefarious acts.
“Christ is our great role model and epitome of peace and love. His sacrifice for mankind is legendary.
“In the same vein, all Christians, Muslims and peoples of other faiths should emulate his simple way of life as he embraced everyone irrespective of race.
“Therefore, I am using this medium to encourage all Christians to use the birth of Jesus Christ to preach peace and embrace everyone irrespective of religious affiliation.
“They should use this period of Christmas to pray for the peace and development of Nigeria,” the statement quoted him as saying.
Meanwhile, the CG has enjoined Christians and other Nigerians to imbibe the exemplary life of Jesus Christ who came into the world for the good of mankind.
